Vixen is Victoria’s peer-only sex worker organisation and member of Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association. Vixen promotes the cultural, legal, human, occupational and civil rights of all sex workers, and has been leading the Victorian campaign for the full decriminalisation of sex work for many years.

 

Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association, the peak national body representing sex workers and sex worker organisations in Australia, will auspice Vixen and support Vixen’s transition to operate as an autonomous funded sex worker organisation.

Vixen Coordinator – part time (0.8 EFT – 30 hours per week) – six month contract

 

The Vixen Coordinator will provide leadership and management to the organisation and involves working cooperatively with the Vixen Manager, staff, and volunteer team. All duties conducted are to be guided by Vixen’s vision, mission statement, organisational objectives, strategic directions, and policies and procedures. 

The Vixen Coordinator will coordinate the organisation’s funded projects and project staff. The successful applicant will also be working directly with sex workers by providing peer-education, support, advocacy, and referral services.

 

Vixen Coordinator duties will include:

 

Providing team leadership, training, and support to project staff and volunteers that facilitates high quality services to sex workers and promotes a culture of inclusion and participation; modelling ethical, respectful, and accountable behaviour; modelling of best practice peer education, health promotion, and community development practices; coordinating the development, updating, and modification of a range of written, visual, and electronic resources for use with and for sex workers; managing performance indicators and working in collaboration with staff to develop, monitor, and report on work plans and personal development plans; and ensuring the efficient management of human resources including staff rostering, WH&S, performance management, and professional development.

 

This position is responsible for the supervision, training, and mentoring of staff and/or volunteers at Vixen.

Vixen Peer Educator & Outreach Worker – part time (0.4 EFT- 15 hours per week) – six month contract (two roles available)

The Vixen Peer Educator & Outreach Worker will be working directly with sex workers by providing peer-education, support, advocacy, and referrals. Services are provided both on-site and on outreach whilst maintaining the organisation’s core values.

Providing holistic support, information, and peer education about safer sex practices within a health-promotion framework, including information on best-practice occupational health and safety practices for sex workers and our workplaces

Developing community engagement and development strategies to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sex workers to represent their issues, ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sex workers are involved at all levels of policy development, program planning and implementation, and to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sex worker input into Vixen.

Ensuring the availability of a range of culturally appropriate, translated, written, visual, and electronic resources for use with sex workers by contributing to the development of new resources and, where appropriate, updating and modifying existing resources.

Developing community engagement and development strategies to empower street-based sex workers to represent their issues and ensure sex workers are involved at all levels of policy development, program planning, and implementation and to promote sex worker input into Vixen.

Ensuring the availability of a range of culturally appropriate, translated, written, visual, and electronic resources for use with sex workers by contributing to the development of new resources and, where appropriate, updating and modifying existing resources.

 

Developing and implementing an outreach program reflecting the specific needs of street-based sex workers in Victoria, including maintaining regular contact through outreach to street-based working areas and the distribution of safer injecting equipment on outreach.

Vixen Counsellor – part time (0.2 EFT – 7.5 hours per week) – 6 month contract

The Vixen Counsellor will deliver short-term therapeutic counselling to sex workers in Victoria. This position will be responsible for contributing to the development of the Vixen counselling program, and will support work to improve sex workers’ equitable access to relevant services. The position requires experience in sex work and therapeutic counselling, and high-level organisational and communication skills.

The Vixen Counsellor will be working directly with sex workers by providing counselling by appointment. Services are provided on-site and online.

Responsibilities will include: Providing counselling to sex workers on a wide range of issues, including matters concerning their health, wellbeing, and psychosocial needs; providing short-term therapeutic counselling interventions, crisis counselling, and brief interventions for sex workers face-to-face, virtually, and via phone; determining the form of intervention collaboratively with sex workers in order to meet their needs.

Vixen Policy Officer – part time (0.6 EFT – 22.5 hours per week) – 6 month contract

This position aims to enhance Vixen’s capacity to effectively inform policy development in Victoria. The Policy Officer position supports Vixen’s advocacy work by developing submissions, briefings, reports, presentations, and policy publications, and coordinates consultation with the Victorian sex worker community on policy positions and key documents.

 

The Policy Officer will prepare and provide policy advice to the sex worker community, government and non-government agencies, and other stakeholders. The position aims to ensure sex work programs, services, policy, and laws are informed by evidence, and by the needs and experiences of sex workers.

Responsibilities will include

Researching and analysing priority policy issues for sex workers in VIC; develop and write briefing papers, discussion papers, policy documents, submissions, articles, and media releases; maintain an awareness of research and campaigns as they relate to sex workers, in order to inform policy development; liaise and consult with sex workers and stakeholders regarding policy and related issues; provide advice, briefings and reports as requested; and represent Vixen at relevant forums.

This position is responsible to the Vixen Manager and the Scarlet Alliance Chief Executive Officer.

Vixen Administration and Finance Officer – part time (0.8 EFT – 30 hours per week) –

6 month contract

The Vixen Administration and Finance officer will provide administrative support and financial management to contribute to the effective operation of the Vixen office.

Administrative duties will include:

  • front of house reception duties, including peer education, information, referral, and support;

  • preparation and generation of correspondence including faxes;

  • organisation and filing of information, files, and resources;

  • phone, fax, and email communication;

  • maintaining databases and contact lists;

  • maintaining the Vixen website and social media;

  • final preparation of reports and submissions;

  • postage, mail collection, and banking;

  • obtaining phone and web-based quotations;

  • making and confirming travel bookings;

  • assisting in organising Vixen events;

  • oversee the distribution arrangement of safer sex products including management of administration and accounting requirements;

  • placing orders and confirming delivery.

 

Finance duties will include:

  • maintaining financial records using MYOB software;

  • accounts payable and receivable data-entry;

  • daily reconciliation of the shop sales;

  • maintaining effective records relating to the shop sales and outgoings;

  • monthly bank and petty cash reconciliations; 

  • preparation of monthly financial reports for Vixen Manager and Scarlet Alliance CEO; 

  • assisting Manager and Project Coordinator with preparation of budgets and cash-flow projections; 

  • preparing BAS and IAS returns; 

  • processing payroll and preparing quarterly payments;

  • liaising with superannuation bodies;

  • projecting reconciliations and monitoring;

  • preparing and monitoring financial record-keeping to meet audit requirements;

  • electronic funds transfer transactions.

Vixen Communications Officer – part time (0.6 EFT – 22.5 hours per week) – 6 month contract

 

The Communications Officer will coordinate Vixen events, raise the profile of Vixen and of issues affecting sex workers in Victoria, and liaise with and produce publications and information materials informed by and for sex workers, stakeholders and partner organisations in VIC.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain web-based resources.

  • Coordinate and assist with activities hosted by Vixen.

  • Produce and graphic design/layout Vixen publications and resources

  • Write, edit and collate content for Vixen communications, resources, internet and social media updates.

  • Act as a contact point and coordinate communication, consultation, and liaison between Vixen and the sex worker community in relation to resources and events. 

  • Develop  a work plan, track and brief on progress. Use initiative to problem solve unclear aspects in order to meet deadlines.

  • Ensure effective file management and archiving of Vixen resources.

  • Provide reports as required.

  • Other duties as directed.
